During the 12 Week, 60Fitness Exercise for Life programme, we will focus on:
Retirement does not mean having to accept:
Regardless of your life stage, circumstances or limitations, you can get fitter and stronger!
Fitness: This means cardiovascular fitness, which essentially means how fast you can walk or run a mile. This is the best predictor of how long you will live and how functional you are in later life.
Strength: This means how much mass you can move, how stable and balanced you are and how quickly you can correct yourself from loss of balance or stumbles.
Fitness and Strength predict lifespan, healthspan and functional ability over the years.

Daryl (July 2003. Age 38. Weight 85 Kg)
Daryl (August 2007, Age 42. Weight 68 Kg)
Daryl (July 2024, Age 59. Weight 65 Kg)
A year ago today I started a diet plan that I thought would not work, having tried many diets over the years, all of which had failed.
We were trying to lose weight as we were going to South Africa 9 months later for a holiday in July 2024.
I had hoped to lose 3 stone in the 9 months (just over 2 kg per month). As skeptical as I was, Daryl explained that it was quite possible. I started with tracking food in a food diary and wore a glucose monitor to see how food affected blood sugar. Small changes in diet were gradually made over time, giving me a chance to adjust to it. At the same time I started walking more and more. Initially some of the diet changes were quite hard but it was quite quick to adjust - such as snacking after supper.
By the time of our trip to South Africa, I had lost the 3 stone - something that you notice when cramped in an aeroplane for 12 hours!. I was unrecognisable when I got to see the family again in Cape Town.
Over the year my diet has changed significantly towards a much healthier diet. Changes were made gradually so I could stick to it and develop better habits and tastes. Nothing is restricted, I still go out and have desserts, beers and meals out, but have much better eating patterns and appetite control. I don’t feel hungry and feel I have more energy. Apart from walking I didn’t do much exercise, but now that I am much lighter, I will start doing weight training at home with some dumbbells - Daryl has given me a programme to follow.
Looking back on the year, I don’t see it as having been on a diet, I see this as a lifestyle change which was introduced gradually and in a way I could carry on indefinitely. I still have some more weight to lose, and plan to do this gradually over the next year while getting fitter and stronger.
I would like to say that I would not be able to do this without the help and support from Daryl Bendel over the last year see him at #60Fitness
Just over a year ago I started on a journey I never thought would be possible.
With a change of diet, more exercise and encouragement from family and friends I went for it.
Daryl Bendel helped guide, advise and cheer me on my way using his knowledge and expertise through 60Fitness.
I didn't think it would work, but I have lost just over 21kgs in this time. I feel fitter, can move more easily and have basically stopped all my meds for my back, where I was told I'd always be in pain and only meds would help me manage the pain.
We went home in July and my family and loved ones couldn't believe the change in just a year.
The plan Daryl comes up with is individualised and takes all aspects of your lifestyle into account. At the beginning I found it hard to change my eating habits, but persevered and with small tweaks and changes along the way, I found what worked for me.
The weight loss is gradual, but steady. I still have cheat days, but overall find I don't need the junk food, takeaways, etc any more.
For anyone looking to go this route, 60Fitness and Daryl are amazing and it definitely works!! 😁.
Looking at the picture on the left is me at my heaviest in March 2023 and the one on the right was August 2024.
A huge Thank You to Daryl.

After years and of trying various fad diets and eating restrictions etc I was feeling very low about my weight and had always found it an uphill struggle to succeed. I have a busy stressful life and found I could never stick to anything, the more I restricted myself the more I found I wanted the items I said I wouldn’t eat.
I found exercise difficult to due painful back issues so had got into a bit of a slump. I had spoken to Daryl regarding a plan with 60Fitness and thought I would try once more to give everything a go and honestly I wasn’t overly excited due mainly to failing so many times before.
Now 6 months in I am absolutely blown away with how easy I have found the programme and how I have steadily lost the weight I so desperately wanted to. Daryl hasn’t restricted me. He has simply guided me on the correct path of optimising my diet and now it’s become a total way of life. There are days when I have a take away or cake for example but, Daryl has taught me how to occasionally incorporate this into a completely healthy diet without worry. Without those rigid restrictions I have felt able to carry on eating well and have really come to enjoy it. Daryl has explained at every step the science behind why our bodies feel the way they do and what our body needs to remain optimal and well. I feel so much better in myself. I have energy and feel like I want to get up and move. I feel fuller after meals because I’m eating good wholesome food and not filling up on processed items full of sugar and fats. From the point of view of getting my body stronger , Daryl has given me some exercises to do and they have been wonderful in getting me back into fitness and providing strengthening for my core and back. I have found his very beneficial. It really hasn’t been a chore and I find myself looking for more exercises and fitness equipment to add into my routine.
In six months I have lost nearly two stone and I feel so proud of myself and I’m so grateful to Daryl. I’m enjoying learning how our body uses the foods we put into it and what we need to have our various systems remain strong and healthy.
I couldn’t recommend 60Fitness enough. It’s really not a programme that’s stressful or difficult to follow and I feel that’s the key to success. I don’t feel judged at all, just totally supported and encouraged. Thank you Daryl @ 60Fitness Here’s to more weight loss in the following months x
